California's Public Policy Leadership
California Think Tank Spotlight This document center is focused on the pioneering efforts in the State of California to enhance the public policy response to the victimization of children with disabilities. The Think Tank brings together the leadership within state government and among major statewide organizations. These gatherings focus on an evolving Action Plan (established by the various state departments during Think Tank I) for improving the state response. The nature of the Action Plan is that it is made up of identifiable and easily achievable steps toward better policies and responses. In each Think Tank, the Action Plan is reviewed, and each participant is invited to indicate any "very doable" action they can take before the next Think Tank convenes. This model succeeds because it dares to examine larger policy issues (with the goal of seeing where California might invest in successful models from other states) while focusing on how each state department and each statewide organization can take concrete steps in the near term to assure that child abuse victims with disabilities will be better protected this year than they were last year.
