Peter Alsop - A Nationally and Internationally renowned speaker at conferences around the country dealing with child abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence, and similar issues. Peter pairs his qualifications as a therapist with his gift of music, helping both to deepen understanding and develop our skills with the right brain, preparing us for days of left-brain activity. He worked as the Director of The Harbor Schools Residential Treatment Center for teens with emotional disabilities in Maine and in New York City as an elementary teacher in the South Bronx ghetto.
John W. Gillis - Director, Office for Victims of Crime, a powerful advocate for crime victims and their survivors. Following the 1979 murder of his daughter Louarna, Mr. Gillis helped found Justice for Homicide Victims and the Coalition of Victims Equal Rights, a statewide organization that works on behalf of the rights of victims and their families. He is also the founder of Victims & Friends United and an active member of Memory of Victims Everywhere and Parents of Murdered Children, a support group for families of homicide victims. In 1991, President George Bush presented Mr. Gillis with the National Crime Victim Service Award for his work in helping crime victims. In 1993, former Attorney General William Barr recognized Mr. Gillis' crime victim service with a Special Commendation Award. Mr. Gillis is also a member of the American Police Hall of Fame.
Bill Benson - President of a consulting firm that specializes in aging and health care policy, program development and training. A nationally renowned policy expert on legislation related elder abuse and dependent adult abuse.
Bob Blancato - Past President of NCPEA. Serves as Acting President of the National Committee to Prevent Elder Abuse, and serves on the Board of Directors for both the American Society on Aging and the United Seniors Health Cooperative.
Dick Sobsey - Nationally and internationally recognized expert on issues of abuse of people with disabilities, author of the basic text on this issue.
Candace J. Heisler - Distinguished and nationally renowned attorney specializing in developing training programs for the successful prosecution of cases of vulnerable adults and elders.
Billy Edwards - Los Angeles County Public DefenderÕs Office. Leader in advocacy for justice who specializes in defense of individuals with developmental disabilities and the inadequacies of our criminal justice system.
Howard Davidson - Director of the American Bar AssociationÕs Division on Children and the Law, is nationally recognized as a leader in promoting childrenÕs welfare, and being at the front lines in promoting/supporting child abuse legislation that affords more protection for them. He was instrumental in assuring that the most recent CAPTA revisions include provisions for children with disabilities
